My Interest in Art

I think that almost everyone appreciates beauty; I do think, though, that different things are "beautiful" to different people. Further, it has been my observation that different people have developed their appreciation for various art forms to varying levels. Some understand and appreciate sculpture, some oil painting, some photography, and still others prefer abstracts. There is nothing wrong with that, of course; it just opens a continuous spectrum of opportunities for all of us to experience and appreciate new things as we grow in our own spiritual and intellectual lives. It also opens up a continuing dialog among observers as to what is truly art, and what is some other form of personal expression.

My particular favorites in terms of classical oils include da Vinci, Dunning, LeDuc, Van Honthorst, Ingres, Liss, Peel, and Gentilschi. My favorite contemporary artists include Bogel, Hanks, Terbush, Coleman, Pitre, Warren, and Kincaid. My favorite subject matter includes fantasy scenes (Pitre is my favorite in this area, with Warren a close second), landscapes (Coleman is outstanding in this area), and quaint / colorful scenes like those produced by Kincaid. I find myself drawn to candle-lit scenes, reds and rusts, and - as with most art aficionados - the human form. Da Vinci's work is particularly compelling in this area, and some contemporary artists do an exceptional job here as well.

A few of my favorite pieces are depicted on this web site in the area entitled: "Some of My Favorite Art".
