My Interest in the Future

As a teenager and young adult, I became fascinated with the concept of time, and particularly intrigued with the idea of time travel. That may well be what sparked my subsequent interest in quantum physics as well as my interest in futurism (the study of the future).

I have been a lifetime member of the World Future Society (WFS) for many years, and have been a speaker at a number of their seminars and chapter meetings. On two occasions, I spoke about the future of manufacturing at their international symposium in Washington, DC. As an organization, WFS is unabashedly liberal in its political undertones, which often puts me at odds with many of the WFS speakers' and authors' positions. However, their undying pursuit of understanding trends and developments - especially future technologies - keeps me involved. I have written and spoken quite a bit for WFS over the last two decades, and on balance, my involvement with the organization has proven to be a positive one.
