My Interest in Mysteries
I have loved mysteries for as long as I have been reading. As a child, I remember that some of my favorite books included the Power Boys mysteries, the Brains Benton mysteries, and the Hardy Boys. In high school, my tastes turned to Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, and various best sellers Robert Ludlum, the Travis McGee mysteries, and others) as they came on the market. I still love Arthur Conan Doyle's writing, and the derivative movies that they have instantiated. I watch Hercule Piorot, Miss Marple, and Nero Wolf whenever I come across an episode of their adventures as well.
I guess, looking at the whole phenomena, it is a way of admiring another's search for truth. It reflects my own wish that the world could be made better by people who work hard to learn the truth, discover answers to new questions, and explore new areas of knowledge. Good overcomes evil through the application of knowledge and reasoning and exploration. In the case of the Holmes stories, it is also a way for me to admire the culture and the trappings of old London - one of my favorite cities.
